Shalom and Sarit Abowitz - Amudei Yeshurun Awardees

Shalom and Sarit Abowitz have been helping to shape the lives of young people for decades and their commitment to the Jewish community has made them worthy recipients of the Amudei Yeshurun Award.

Shalom, a native of Philadelphia, learned in Yeshivas Rabbeinu Yitzchak Elchanan in New York and Kollel Aish Hatorah in Jerusalem. Sarit, a native Israeli from Kiryat Motzkin, learned in Ulpana and Stern College.

The Abowitzes moved to Skokie in 1993 to join the staff of the Fasman Yeshiva High School. During their years in Skokie, the Abowitzes forged strong connections, and after living in Eretz Yisroel for a few years, they returned to Chicago in 2005.

Settling into Yeshurun, Shalom and Sarit became active and energetic members. In the subsequent years Shalom served as gabbai, mashgiach and as President. He continues to be active and volunteer his time whenever the need arises. Shalom works with Chessed Shel Emmes and is also very active in Hatzalah. Sarit is a beloved Morah in our community and for the last twelve years at Arie Crown Hebrew Day School she has been a role model and guide for many girls in our community.

Yeshurun is proud to honor the Abowitzes at our 49th-anniversary dinner May 6th, 2018 and wish both Shalom and Sarit, their four daughters and son -- Ganit and Yehoshua (and Yakira) Reis, Edit and Yossi Schechter, Tiferet, Esther Avigayil, and Michaeli - many more years of Mazel Simcha and Bracha.
